Organizational Matters

If you plan to hold a course or an exam in one of our labs, please feel free to contact as soon as you wish. Information about Environments may be found below.

Once you acquired all the information you need, please create an issue in our GitLab:

Course Environments

We provide a Linux Desktop environment based on AlmaLinux Version 9 (which is a clone of RedHat Enterprise Linux) with Xfce as desktop environment.

Optionally we also provide a Windows 10 environment.

For more details contact us directly.

Exam Environments

We provide an extensive exam environment as well as various kiosk environments.

Exam Environment

Exams based on exam-env provide an environment similar to lab environment but with workstation local accounts. That means an exam can usually continue to run even if there is a network problem (as long as course staff does not introduce any new network dependencies).

Our exam environment also provides a set of tools specifically created to assist situations with a large set of students participating exams and is highly configurable with hooks (scripts).

There is a tool which allows efficient collection of results after the exam ends - in fact it can be executed while the exam is running, but this usually makes no sense. Also participants and admin users can be created by the course staff. Course staff can give (via sudo) individual users root access. There are several other features, like optional semi automated seating, seating displayed on TVs, optional USB filtering (allow only devices of your choice) or a customizable firewall.

Kiosk Environment

Kiosks run on a RAM disk, that means after power outage or reboot all local content is lost. This setup is used for exams without local state

  • usually this is used with web server based exams (iE TUWEL).

It is possible to install any required software on the Kiosk and we provide a customizable firewall (iE to limit access only to the web server the exam is taking place on).

Advantages of the Kiosk are:

  • no user preparation
  • no artifacts of old exams
  • shorter preparation time

A separate kiosk will be crafted and stored for each course.
